Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar has agreed to join Nottingham Forest following his decision to leave his role at the Emirates. Edu, who has been instrumental in Arsenal’s recent success, will be taking up a new role with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Edu joined Arsenal in 2019 as technical director and was later promoted to sporting director. During his tenure, h e played a crucial role in the club’s recruitment strategy, bringing in key players such as Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, while offloading underperforming stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Özil.
The decision to leave Arsenal was entirely Edu’s, driven by his desire to take on a new challenge. He has held positive talks with the Marinakis group, which includes clubs like Nottingham Forest, Greek side Olympiacos, and Portuguese side Rio Ave. Edu’s new role will involve working with Marinakis’ network of clubs, overseeing recruitment and player development.
Edu’s departure comes at a critical time for Arsenal as they continue their push for the Premier League title and prepare for their Champions League match against Inter Milan. The club will now need to find a suitable replacement to fill the void left by Edu’s departure.
