Mikel Arteta is hoping Declan Rice injury will not keep him out of the Brighton Clash.

Mikel Arteta believes Declan Rice will be fit to face Brighton after suffering injury scares in Arsenal Premier League win over Chelsea at the Emirates.

Arsenal travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion at the American Express Stadium on Wednesday, 4 March 2026 (7:30pm GMT), looking to protect their five-point lead at the top of the table.

Rice was substituted in the 76th minute of Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea after appearing to tweak his knee. The midfielder signalled to the bench and was withdrawn as a precaution.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Arteta said:

“I hope [he is available]. He was much better today. Obviously, we haven’t really trained because we have only two days to prepare the game. So hopefully it’s going to be better tomorrow.”

The manager confirmed Rice reported improvement, but with limited training time between fixtures, a final decision will be made closer to kick-off.

Importance to Arsenal Midfield

Rice has been a central figure in Arsenal’s title challenge this season. His defensive positioning, passing range and leadership have provided balance in midfield.

If unavailable, Arteta could turn to Christian Norgaard to anchor the midfield. However, Rice’s absence would reduce Arsenal’s physical presence against a Brighton side known for their pressing intensity.

Wider Squad Fitness Update

Arsenal have additional fitness concerns ahead of the match:

  • Kai Havertz has returned but is regaining full sharpness.
  • Martin Ødegaard continues to manage a knee issue.
  • David Raya is expected to be fit after a late knock.
  • Ben White remains sidelined.
  • Mikel Merino is still out with a foot injury.

Fixture congestion remains a challenge, with limited recovery time between matches.

Title Race Implications

Arsenal aim to extend their lead before Manchester City play later in the week. Brighton’s home form adds difficulty to the fixture, increasing the importance of squad availability.

Rice’s status could influence team selection and in-game control, particularly in central midfield battles.

As it stands, Rice is considered a doubt but showing positive signs. Arsenal medical staff will assess him again before confirming the matchday squad.

Final confirmation is expected shortly before kick-off.
