Arsenal midfielder Martín Zubimendi enjoyed a memorable Champions League home debut, playing a key role in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium.

Summer signing Martín Zubimendi, who joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad, made his first Champions League appearance at the Emirates and delivered a composed performance. Playing his eighth game for the Gunners, he helped Mikel Arteta’s side maintain their perfect start to the European campaign.

“I’m really happy,” Zubimendi said after the match. “It was the first match in the Champions League at home—the atmosphere was amazing. We scored two and kept a clean sheet.”

Tactical Discipline and Team Spirit

The Spanish midfielder highlighted the intensity of the contest, especially when Olympiacos increased the pressure in the second half.

“It was really demanding. We started really well but at the end they pushed a lot. I think we suffered in some moments where we shouldn’t have,” he admitted.

Despite those challenges, Arsenal stood firm. Goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka secured the win, while Zubimendi’s performance earned him a 7.5 rating, reflecting his influence both defensively and in possession.

Settling Into Life at Arsenal

Since his arrival in North London, Zubimendi has shown steady progress in adapting to the Premier League’s pace and physical demands.

“The adaptation has been good, but I think I can do better,” he said. “The team is amazing, the staff gave me a lot of confidence. The feeling on the pitch is good, but I think I have more to do in this club.”

With a Premier League clash against West Ham up next, Zubimendi stressed the importance of recovery and maintaining momentum.

“We want to keep the momentum and win as many games as possible. We will recover well and prepare for the next game.”

Zubimendi’s humility, combined with his ambition, is quickly endearing him to the Arsenal faithful. If his display against Olympiacos is anything to go by, the Gunners may have found their next midfield maestro.
