William Saliba quadruple ambition emerges as Arsenal progress in every major competition this season.
William Saliba has laid down a bold challenge to his Arsenal teammates after their dramatic Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over Crystal Palace, insisting the squad must now aim for an unprecedented Quadruple.
The Gunners edged past Palace on penalties at the Emirates Stadium to reach the League Cup semi-finals, keeping alive hopes of lifting the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup in the same season — something no English club has ever achieved.
Arsenal dominated large spells of the contest but needed spot-kicks to settle the tie after a 1-1 draw.
William Saliba played a central role throughout. His presence at a late corner forced Maxence Lacroix into an own goal in the 79th minute, before Palace captain Marc Guéhi equalised deep into stoppage time.
The shootout stretched to sudden death. Saliba converted Arsenal’s eighth penalty with authority before Kepa Arrizabalaga denied Lacroix to seal an 8-7 victory.
Saliba Issues Clear Trophy Challenge
Speaking after the match, Saliba made it clear that Arsenal’s ambition must now turn into silverware.
“We know that in every competition we play, we know we can win it,” Saliba said. “We have been close in the Premier League in the past three seasons, and last season we were in the semi-finals of the Champions League and Carabao Cup. We know we can win every competition.”
The French defender stressed that belief alone is no longer enough.
“We have to show that on the pitch and start winning trophies now.”
Despite Arsenal sitting top of the Premier League and Champions League group, Saliba urged caution with so much football still to come.
“The mood is good, but we know it’s still December. Things can change quickly in football. What matters is at the end, when we are holding trophies.”
Arsenal could face up to three games per week until mid-February, but Saliba views the workload as a sign of progress.
“If we have a lot of games, it means we are doing a good job. Hopefully injured players return in January to help us.”
Arsenal now face Chelsea over two legs in the Carabao Cup semi-finals — a tie Saliba described as decisive.
“We are in the semi-finals now. There are three games left. We have to do the job against Chelsea. It’s a big derby.”
He also dismissed any suggestion that the Carabao Cup should be treated lightly.
“At the end of your career, we count trophies. The Carabao Cup is one of them.”
Arteta Backs Squad Mentality
Mikel Arteta echoed Saliba’s mindset, praising the team’s ability to grind out results across competitions.
“You have to win in different situations and contexts. Every three days, these players are performing at a very high level.”
No English side has ever won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup in the same season. Arsenal’s last major trophy came in the 2020 FA Cup, while their most recent League Cup success dates back to 1993.
