William Saliba injury return boosts Arsenal ahead of Forest clash as Arteta confirms defender’s surprise recovery in training.
Arsenal defender William Saliba has made a surprise return to training following an ankle injury that raised concerns about a long-term absence. He left the match against Liverpool just minutes after kickoff, which fueled fears of a recovery period lasting up to a month.
Saliba sprained his ankle during the warm-up before Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool. Despite starting the match, he exited after only five minutes, alarming supporters and prompting his withdrawal from international duty.
However, in a press conference on Friday, manager Mikel Arteta delivered the uplifting news: “William trained today, so we have a decision to make whether we play him or not. It’s very good news”.
Defensive Boost Ahead of Forest Clash
Saliba’s return couldn’t come at a better time. Arsenal are preparing to face Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium, a team now under the leadership of former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. With Bukayo Saka still recovering from a hamstring injury and Kai Havertz sidelined following minor knee surgery, Saliba’s availability offers a much-needed boost to a squad stretched thin by injuries.
Ben White and new signing Christian Norgaard have also returned to training, further strengthening Arteta’s options.
Saliba’s presence in the backline has been pivotal since his breakthrough into the first team. His composure, aerial dominance, and ability to play out from the back have made him indispensable. With key fixtures looming—including a Champions League opener against Athletic Club and a Premier League showdown with Manchester City—his return could be the difference between maintaining momentum and slipping behind in the title race.
