William Saliba injury update: Arteta shares concern after defender limps off early during Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Arsenal’s defensive star William Saliba was forced off with a suspected ankle injury just minutes into their Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield. The French centre-back appeared to be in discomfort following a collision with Hugo Ekitike and was substituted early in the first half.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed concern over Saliba’s condition.
“I am worried,” Arteta admitted. “When he cannot play in a game of that stature, there is clearly something wrong.”

Arteta revealed that Saliba had already been struggling before kickoff, which made his early substitution even more troubling.

Saliba’s injury adds to Arsenal’s mounting fitness concerns. Key players including Bukayo Saka (hamstring), Kai Havertz (knee), and Ben White were unavailable for the match. Even captain Martin Ødegaard was only fit enough for the bench.

Arteta commented, “We lost Martin, we lost Kai, and then we lost Bukayo. In the warm-up we lost Saliba.”

Mosquera Impresses on Debut

Despite the setback, Cristhian Mosquera stepped in and delivered a solid performance in his full debut. The 21-year-old defender held his own against Liverpool’s attacking threats, including Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

The match ended in a 1–0 defeat for Arsenal, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring a stunning 32-yard free-kick. Arteta praised his team’s effort but emphasized the importance of converting chances:
“You have to put the ball in the back of the net if you want to win the game.”

With Champions League fixtures looming after the international break, Arsenal fans will be hoping for positive news on Saliba’s recovery. His presence is crucial to the team’s defensive stability and overall performance.
