William Saliba Contract Update: Arsenal Defender Quashes Exit Rumors with Confident Commitment

Arsenal’s defensive rock, William Saliba, has put an end to speculation about a move to Spain by providing an update on his contract situation with the club.

The 24-year-old French international, who has become a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s backline, recently responded to questions after Arsenal’s 3–2 preseason win over Newcastle in Singapore. When a reporter asked him about signing a new contract, Saliba replied with optimism: “Hopefully soon! God is great,” he told AFTV.

Arsenal’s Unwavering Stance Amid Madrid Interest

Despite persistent interest from Real Madrid—who reportedly view Saliba as their No. 1 target at centre back—Arsenal have made it clear that the defender is not for sale, even in the face of offers exceeding €100 million. The club is actively working to extend his current deal, which runs until summer 2027, and is prepared to make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.

Since joining Arsenal from Saint-Étienne in 2019 for £27 million, Saliba has made 134 appearances, keeping 58 clean sheets and earning back-to-back inclusions in the PFA Team of the Year. His partnership with Gabriel Magalhães has been instrumental in Arsenal’s defensive success, with the team boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League last season.

Saliba’s ambitions align with Arsenal’s competitive goals. He declared his intent to win “everything” this season—including the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and Carabao Cup. His commitment to the club’s vision and hunger for trophies has reassured fans and reinforced his status as a leader in the squad.

While Real Madrid continue to monitor Saliba closely, likening him to the “Bellingham of defenders,” Arsenal’s firm stance and Saliba’s own words suggest that a move to La Liga is unlikely in the near future. Talks between Arsenal and Saliba’s camp are reportedly progressing well, with sporting director Andrea Berta leading negotiations.
