Ex-Arsenal captain, William Gallas has criticized Mikel Arteta, claiming his former club lacks a winning mentality under his guidance.
Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has launched a scathing critique of current Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, accusing him of making “unacceptable” errors and failing to reach the level of a world-class manager. Gallas, who captained Arsenal during his playing days, did not hold back in his assessment of Arteta’s tenure at the club.
Gallas expressed his frustration with Arteta’s management, particularly highlighting the repeated mistakes that have plagued the team. “It’s unacceptable for Arsenal to be making the same mistakes year after year with the same manager,” Gallas told Prime Casino. He emphasized that a winning mentality is crucial for a club like Arsenal, and excuses such as injuries are not sufficient to justify the lack of trophies.
One of the key points of Gallas’s criticism was Arteta’s recruitment strategy. He pointed out that Arsenal’s failure to secure a top striker in the transfer windows of 2023 and 2024 has been a significant oversight. “Signing a striker seems to be a blind spot for Arteta,” Gallas remarked. He argued that top managers do not make the same mistake two seasons in a row, and this has contributed to Arsenal finishing second in the Premier League for two consecutive seasons.

Gallas also drew a comparison between Arteta and Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, who is on course to win the Premier League in his debut season. “Right now, Arteta is a good manager, not a world-class manager,” Gallas declared. He praised Slot’s immediate impact and big personality, contrasting it with Arteta’s inability to deliver silverware despite having a strong squad.
