Arsenal delivered a statement performance in the Champions League round of 16, crushing PSV Eindhoven 7–1 at the Philips Stadion. Rooney Issues Caution to Injured Stars

Wayne Rooney, speaking as a pundit for Prime Video, praised the young duo’s impact and warned that Saka and Martinelli may face stiff competition upon their return.

“The young lads have come into the team and been fantastic. It’s all about momentum. When you’re out injured for a long time, you have to earn your way back. Of course, they’re top players, but if these lads keep shining, it won’t be as easy as people think.”

Nwaneri, just 17, scored one of Arsenal’s seven goals, while Lewis-Skelly, 18, provided a key assist. Their fearless performances helped Arsenal dominate from start to finish, with additional goals from Jurrien Timber, Mikel Merino, Martin Odegaard (twice), Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori. PSV’s only response came via a Noa Lang penalty.

Walcott Urges Caution with Saka’s Return

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott also weighed in, urging the club to be patient with Saka’s recovery.

“They’ve got to be careful with him. When you’ve been out for a while, it takes time to get back to your best. They won’t want to rush Bukayo.”

The emphatic win not only showcased Arsenal’s attacking depth but also boosted their Champions League hopes. With young talent stepping up and veterans returning soon, Mikel Arteta’s squad looks increasingly dangerous as they eye a spot in the quarter-finals.
