Wayne Rooney predicts Arsenal and Chelsea will rival Liverpool in the race to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this January transfer window.
Wayne Rooney has made a bold transfer prediction regarding the future of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, the former England striker believes Arsenal and Chelsea will challenge Liverpool for the signing of the “special” defender.
Liverpool were close to securing Marc Guehi in a £35 million deal before the 2024/25 season. However, Crystal Palace halted the transfer due to their inability to find a suitable replacement. Their top target, Brighton’s Igor Julio, joined West Ham on loan, leaving Palace without cover in defense.
Despite the setback, Liverpool remain interested in Guehi, who has impressed with consistent performances and leadership at Palace.
Wayne Rooney’s Praise for Guehi
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney described Guehi as a “special player” with all the attributes of a top-level defender. He said:
“He’s a good size, not the tallest but strong in the air. He can play with both feet, he’s aggressive, and I think he’ll be a real top player over the next few years.”
Rooney also questioned whether Guehi would remain at Palace, suggesting a move is inevitable.
Arsenal and Chelsea Could Enter the Race
Rooney believes Arsenal and Chelsea are likely to enter the race for Guehi’s signature. He hinted that the London clubs could outmaneuver Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window.
“I’ve just got a feeling that Arsenal and Chelsea might come in and they might try and take Liverpool out of it,” Rooney added.
