According to Portuguese outlet TV Guia, the breakup was a mutual decision, driven largely by Gyökeres’ desire to sever ties with Portugal as he prepares to leave Sporting. A source close to the player revealed, “Viktor doesn’t want anything to link him to Portugal, especially because he has already decided that he won’t continue at Sporting next season”.
Despite the emotional toll, the pair reportedly remain on good terms. Aguiar is said to be “devastated” but understanding of the situation, recognizing that the separation was inevitable given Gyökeres’ career trajectory.
On the football front, the 27-year-old forward—who scored a staggering 54 goals in 52 appearances last season—is holding out for a move to Arsenal, having already turned down offers from Juventus and Manchester United. While his contract includes a €100 million release clause, Sporting are reportedly open to negotiating a lower fee.
