England manager Thomas Tuchel explain White omission from the national team, citing personal commitments and injury concerns.
Arsenal defender Ben White has been left out of the England squad once again, and this time, manager Thomas Tuchel explain White omission by citing both personal commitments and fitness concerns. White, who had distanced himself from international duty during Gareth Southgate’s tenure, was in talks with Tuchel about a potential return. However, Tuchel revealed that White is set to become a father during the national team camp, leading to his decision to prioritize family over football at this moment.
White, 27, has had a complicated relationship with the England national team. His last appearance for the Three Lions was during the 2022 World Cup, which ended in controversy after reports of a dispute with then-assistant coach Steve Holland. Since then, White had made himself unavailable for selection under Gareth Southgate’s tenure. However, Tuchel, who took over as England boss in January, has reopened the door for White’s return.

Despite discussions between Tuchel and White about a potential comeback, the German coach confirmed that the timing was not right. “He made very strong progress. We had a talk and we decided that at the moment this is not the moment because he will become a father very soon. The baby is due during the camp. We wish him all the best for that,” Tuchel explained.
Apart from his impending fatherhood, White has also been dealing with fitness issues. The defender suffered a knee injury in November, which kept him out of Arsenal’s matchday squads for a significant portion of the season. Tuchel acknowledged that White is still working his way back to full fitness, which played a role in his omission from the squad
England is set to face Andorra in a World Cup qualifier on June 7, followed by a friendly against Senegal three days later. While White will miss these matches, Tuchel has assured fans that the defender remains in his plans for future selections. “He is 100% ready to be called up in the future,” Tuchel stated, hinting that White could soon make his long-awaited return to international football.
White’s absence from the England squad may be disappointing for fans who hoped to see him back in action, but his personal milestone is undoubtedly a joyous occasion. As he steps into fatherhood, his return to the national team remains a possibility—one that Tuchel seems keen to facilitate when the time is right.
