Arsenal influential midfielder Thomas Partey, has been left out of Ghana’s squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger. This surprising decision came after confidential discussions between Partey and Ghana’s manager, Otto Addo.
Addo revealed that he had a confidential talk with Partey, during which he made it clear why the midfielder would not be included in the squad. Although Addo did not disclose the specific reasons behind Partey’s exclusion, he emphasized that the decision was not permanent and that Partey could return to the squad in the future.
“Thomas wanted to come, he wanted to come, but I made it quite clear why he is not coming,” Addo told reporters. “It’s confidential. It is difficult for me to mention all the things. We have to move on. Now, as you know, Thomas is not coming and it’s not a permanent thing, so we are always open for him to return.”
In Partey’s absence, Jordan Ayew has been confirmed as Ghana’s captain for the upcoming matches. Ghana’s performance in the qualifiers has been less than stellar, with the team currently sitting third in their group and facing an uphill battle to qualify for the tournament.
Despite being left out of the international squad, Partey has continued to be a key player for Arsenal this season, making 15 appearances across all competitions. His future with the national team remains uncertain, but Addo’s comments suggest that Partey’s return is still a possibility if he addresses the issues discussed during their meeting.
