Thierry Henry says Arsenal and Bayern Munich look stronger Champions League contenders than Barcelona after Bayern’s 6-1 win over Atalanta.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Arsenal and Bayern Munich currently look better equipped to win the UEFA Champions League than Barcelona.

Henry made the claim shortly after Bayern delivered a crushing 6-1 victory over Atalanta in their last-16 first-leg clash.

Speaking on CBS Sports alongside Jamie Carragher, the Arsenal icon explained that Bayern’s structure and tactical balance currently give them a clear advantage over Barcelona.

The German champions dominated the match in Bergamo, with Michael Olise scoring twice while several other players also found the net.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane remained on the bench as he continues to recover from a calf injury.

Bayern’s Balance Impresses Henry in the Champions League

Henry highlighted Bayern’s tactical organisation as a major factor behind their convincing performance.

“I think that Bayern is way more balanced than Barcelona in terms of how they attack and how they shift positions,” Henry explained.

He pointed out that Bayern’s attacking movement allows different players to step into key roles during matches.

According to Henry, the team’s pressing structure and positional awareness make them extremely difficult to beat.

That level of organisation, he suggested, currently puts Bayern slightly ahead of Barcelona in the race for European football’s biggest prize.

Barcelona’s Inconsistency Raises Questions

Henry also raised concerns about Barcelona’s recent performances.

The Spanish giants struggled during their last-16 first-leg clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Harvey Barnes had given Newcastle the lead before Lamine Yamal rescued Barcelona with a dramatic 96th-minute penalty to secure a 1-1 draw.

Henry suggested that Barcelona’s form can fluctuate dramatically from one match to another.

He referenced their recent Copa del Rey clash with Atletico Madrid as an example of that unpredictability.

You see games where it could have been six or seven goals either way,” Henry explained. “They need to find that consistency and balance.”

Carragher Agrees With Henry’s Verdict

Jamie Carragher fully supported Henry’s assessment of the Champions League race.

The former Liverpool defender believes both Bayern and Arsenal would currently have the edge if they faced Barcelona in Europe.

“I think Bayern or Arsenal would beat Barcelona,” Carragher said.

The comment reflects growing belief that Arsenal have developed into one of Europe’s strongest teams under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal Enter Knockout Stage With Momentum

Arsenal head into their own last-16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen with strong momentum.

Mikel Arteta’s side finished the Champions League league phase with a perfect record, winning all eight of their matches.

That impressive run has strengthened the perception that Arsenal are genuine contenders for the trophy this season.

After reaching the semi-finals last year, expectations around the squad have increased significantly.

Henry’s comments highlight just how highly the team is now rated across European football.

Arsenal’s European Ambitions Growing

Henry knows both Arsenal and Barcelona extremely well from his playing career, which gives his opinion extra weight.

The French legend believes Barcelona remain dangerous but insists consistency will determine who ultimately lifts the trophy.

For now, he sees Arsenal and Bayern as the teams showing the strongest balance between attacking quality and defensive stability.

As the knockout rounds intensify, Arsenal supporters will hope Henry’s prediction proves accurate when the Gunners face Leverkusen in the first leg.
