Thierry Henry firmly believes Arsenal have the necessary capacity to overcome Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in a potential Champions League quarter-final match.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has expressed his confidence in the Gunners’ ability to defeat either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in a potential Champions League quarter-final clash. Following Arsenal’s emphatic 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie, Henry believes that Mikel Arteta’s side has what it takes to challenge the Spanish giants.
Henry, who was a key figure in Arsenal’s historic run to the Champions League final in 2006, shared his thoughts on CBS Sports. He stated, “Yes, they can, yes, I do believe that. This is why I called it. I’m just saying now, show us that you can do that against a good team with people that are coming back”.
The Gunners’ dominant performance against PSV has all but secured their place in the quarter-finals, where they are set to face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid. Henry highlighted the importance of this victory in boosting the team’s confidence, especially with key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli expected to return from injury in time for the quarter-finals.
While acknowledging the challenge posed by the Madrid clubs, Henry emphasized that Arsenal’s recent form and the return of injured players could give them the edge they need. “No disrespect to Eindhoven, I really thought it was going to be difficult, especially away from home but they made it look easy. I think they had an outstanding game as you can see with the result”.
Henry also pointed out that Arsenal’s focus on the Champions League could be a significant advantage, given that their Premier League title hopes are all but over. “We all know that the [Premier] League is over. Apart if something crazy happens but what I’m trying to say is that this game can help maybe to be confident in this competition but [also] the game that you have after, Real Madrid or Atletico”
