Sol Campbell warns that Gyokeres arrival not enough to guarantee Arsenal’s title dreams, stressing the need for more attacking firepower.
Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has voiced concerns over the club’s Premier League title ambitions, suggesting that the arrival of prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres may not be the silver bullet fans are hoping for.
Gyokeres, who is set to join Arsenal from Sporting CP for a reported £63.8 million, has been hailed as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, netting an astonishing 97 goals in 102 games for the Portuguese side.
His physicality, pace, and goal-scoring prowess have drawn comparisons to elite strikers, and many believe he could be the missing piece in Mikel Arteta’s attacking puzzle.
However, Campbell isn’t entirely convinced. In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the former England defender stated that Arsenal need more than just one striker to mount a serious title challenge.
Gyokeres is a great addition, Campbell said,
“but if Arsenal truly want to dominate, they need two top-tier forwards who can consistently deliver across all competitions”.
Campbell’s comments come amid Arsenal’s busiest transfer window in decades. Alongside Gyokeres, the Gunners have already secured deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera.
Yet, Campbell believes that squad depth and attacking variety remain areas of concern, especially when competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Arteta’s system has often relied on fluid attacking play and versatility, but critics argue that the lack of a traditional No. 9 has cost Arsenal in key moments.
Gyokeres could fill that void, but Campbell warns against placing too much pressure on a single player. “It’s not just about goals,” he said. “It’s about how the team adapts, how they rotate, and how they respond when injuries hit.”

With the Premier League season fast approaching, Arsenal fans are hopeful that Gyokeres can replicate his Sporting form in England.
However, Campbell’s cautionary stance serves as a reminder that titles are won through depth, resilience, and consistency, rather than marquee signings.
