Serie A Side Eyes Arsenal’s Star as Bargain Deal Looms

Serie A clubs intensify interest in the Fabio Vieira transfer as Arsenal slash asking price in a summer midfield reshuffle.

Fabio Vieira transfer could be heading for a fresh start in Italy, as Serie A clubs circle with interest following the Gunners’ decision to offload the Portuguese playmaker at a reduced price.

Vieira arrived at Arsenal in 2022 from FC Porto with high expectations and a hefty price tag of £34 million. Despite flashes of creativity, his time in North London was largely underwhelming. Over two seasons, he managed just three goals in 49 appearances, struggling to adapt to the Premier League’s physical demands.

After a loan spell back at Porto in 2024/25, where he showed glimpses of his talent with five goals in 42 games, Arsenal decided not to pursue a long-term role for him.

According to Calciomercato, interest from Serie A is heating up, with Parma reportedly keen on reuniting Vieira with their new manager Carlos Cuesta, formerly Mikel Arteta’s assistant at Arsenal. Cuesta’s familiarity with Vieira could be key in reviving the midfielder’s career in a more tactically nuanced league.

Italian football’s slower tempo and emphasis on technical play may suit Vieira’s style better than the Premier League’s intensity.

In a bid to streamline their squad and raise funds for new signings, Arsenal are reportedly willing to accept just €20 million (£17.2 million) for Vieira—a significant markdown from his original fee. Some reports even suggest the Gunners might entertain swap deals, potentially involving defenders like Porto’s Otavio.

A move to Serie A could offer Vieira the reset he needs. With Arsenal actively reshaping their squad—already bringing in Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga, and pursuing Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres—outgoings like Vieira are essential to balance the books.

For Vieira, Italy might just be the perfect stage to rediscover his form and prove that his Premier League struggles were a temporary setback.
