Rio Ferdinand warns that Viktor Gyokeres may struggle in the Premier League, urging Manchester United and Arsenal to reconsider interest.
Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United and Arsenal not to sign Viktor Gyokeres, claiming the Sporting Lisbon striker would struggle in the Premier League.
The former Manchester United defender expressed serious doubts about Gyokeres’ ability to adapt to English football. Ferdinand believes the £63 million-rated Swedish international lacks the physical attributes required to thrive in the Premier League.
Gyokeres continues to impress at Sporting Lisbon, scoring 82 goals in 90 matches over the past two seasons. His goal-scoring prowess has attracted interest from top European clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, both of which urgently need attacking reinforcements.
Despite Gyokeres’ stellar form, Ferdinand remains unconvinced. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand revealed that he had watched Gyokeres play three times and did not see the qualities needed to succeed in England’s top flight.
Ferdinand Questions Gyokeres’ Physicality
Ferdinand emphasized Gyokeres’ lack of physicality as a major concern. He argued that Premier League defenders would overpower the striker and compared him to Timo Werner, who struggled with similar issues after joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig.
“Gyokeres reminds me of Werner,” Ferdinand said. “He’s talented, but I don’t think he can handle the physical demands of the Premier League.”

United and Arsenal Face Striker Crisis
Manchester United and Arsenal both face a shortage of reliable goal-scorers. United’s current forwards, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee, have failed to deliver consistent goals. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s decision to skip signing a striker during the January transfer window has backfired.
Despite these challenges, Ferdinand insists that Gyokeres does not offer the solution either club needs. He urges both teams to reconsider their options before making a costly mistake.
