Rio Ferdinand believes that signing Alexander Isak “will secure Arsenal’s Premier League title,” and advises the Gunners to drop their pursuit of Martin Zubimendi this summer.
Former Manchester United defender and football pundit, Rio Ferdinand, has weighed in on Arsenal’s transfer strategy, pinpointing a signing that he believes could elevate the Gunners to title-winning caliber.
According to Ferdinand, the signing of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak could be the transformative move Arsenal needs to clinch the Premier League title. Ferdinand emphasized that Arsenal has been lacking a prolific No.9 for the past few seasons, and Isak’s arrival could fill that void. “Arsenal fans have been calling out for a No.9 for two or three years,” Ferdinand stated. “If you can sign Isak, you’ve got to do it. They could win the league with him because he’s phenomenal and gives them something different”.
Arsenal’s current campaign has been marred by injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, which has significantly impacted their title challenge. Despite these setbacks, the Gunners have managed to stay competitive, but Ferdinand believes that the addition of a top-tier striker like Isak could be the catalyst for a successful title run.

While Arsenal has reportedly agreed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £51 million, Ferdinand is not convinced that this is the right move for the club. He argues that Arsenal’s priority should be securing a top striker rather than bolstering their midfield. “They don’t need that player,” Ferdinand said, referring to Zubimendi.
Ferdinand’s insights come at a crucial time for Arsenal, as they prepare for a challenging end to the season. With Liverpool extending their lead at the top of the table, the Gunners need every advantage they can get to stay in the title race.
