Real Sociedad Chief Addresses Martin Zubimendi Transfer Amid Arsenal’s £51m Deal

Jokin Aperribay Weighs In on Martin Zubimendi’s Future Amid Arsenal Interest.

Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, has spoken about Martin Martin Zubimendi’s future, shedding light on the situation as Arsenal reportedly prepares to activate his £51 million release clause.

Zubimendi, a 26-year-old Spanish international, has been a key player for Real Sociedad. His performances have attracted interest from top clubs, including Arsenal and Real Madrid. Last summer, he turned down a move to Liverpool, opting to stay with his hometown club for another season. However, with Arsenal’s midfield in need of reinforcement due to expiring contracts of players like Jorginho and Thomas Partey, the Gunners are keen to secure Zubimendi’s services.

In an interview with Radio Marca Donostia, Aperribay expressed his hopes for Zubimendi to focus on helping Real Sociedad qualify for European competitions before making any decisions about his future. He stated, “We’ll see what happens. All I ask of him is one last effort to qualify for Europe, and whatever happens will happen in June.” Aperribay emphasized that the decision ultimately lies with Zubimendi, who has had several opportunities to leave the club.

The release clause in Zubimendi’s contract simplifies the transfer process, leaving the choice entirely up to the player. Aperribay remarked, “Contracts aren’t negotiated like that. It’s more a matter of willpower. If he wants to continue, the conversation will last five minutes.” This statement highlights the club’s stance on respecting the player’s wishes.

Real Sociedad faces challenges in their pursuit of European football, and Zubimendi’s desire to play in the Champions League may influence his decision. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, who shares a connection with Zubimendi through their San Sebastian roots, could be a compelling factor in the midfielder’s move to the Premier League.
