Ray Parlour Urges Arsenal Duo to Lead Fightback Against PSG

Ray Parlour urges Saka and Martinelli to lead Arsenal’s PSG Comeback as the Gunners aim to overturn their first-leg defeat in Paris.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has called on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to spearhead Arsenal’s PSG comeback in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final. With Arsenal trailing 1-0 after Ousmane Dembélé’s decisive goal in the first leg, Parlour believes the young attacking duo holds the key to overturning the deficit.

The first leg at the Emirates saw Arsenal struggle against PSG’s high press and quick ball recovery. Despite creating chances, including efforts from Martinelli and Leandro Trossard that were denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Gunners failed to find the back of the net. Meanwhile, PSG had opportunities to extend their lead, but Bradley Barcola and Gonçalo Ramos were unable to capitalize.

Parlour emphasized the importance of Thomas Partey’s return, noting that his absence in the first leg disrupted Arsenal’s midfield balance. He pointed out that Declan Rice and Mikel Merino had to adjust their roles, which affected the team’s overall performance. With Partey back, Arsenal should have more control in midfield, allowing their attacking players to focus on breaking down PSG’s defense.

According to Parlour, scoring first in Paris is crucial for Arsenal. He believes Saka and Martinelli have the ability to unlock PSG’s defense and create goal-scoring opportunities. Additionally, Merino’s presence as a No.9 could pose problems for the French side. However, Parlour warned that Arsenal must avoid conceding early, as it would make their task significantly harder.

The winner of this semi-final will face Inter Milan in the Champions League final, after the Serie A champions edged past Barcelona in a thrilling encounter. Arsenal will need to be at their best to overcome PSG and keep their European dream alive.

With the stage set for a dramatic showdown at the Parc des Princes, all eyes will be on Saka and Martinelli to see if they can rise to the occasion and lead Arsenal to victory.
