FC Porto has agree a deal to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal, according to report from The Athletic. The €27 million agreement includes performance-based add-ons and a season-long loan with an obligation to buy. However, the transfer will only proceed if Arsenal successfully signs Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal is actively negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Piero Hincapie, a 23-year-old Ecuadorian international. The club has agreed personal terms with the defender, but Leverkusen insists on a €60 million release clause.

Until Arsenal secures Hincapie, the club has paused Kiwior’s departure. A private jet arranged for Kiwior’s travel to Portugal was reportedly cancelled, emphasizing the conditional nature of the move.

Jakub Kiwior’s Arsenal Journey

Kiwior joined Arsenal in January 2023 from Spezia. Although he showed promise, he struggled to secure a consistent starting role. Over two seasons, he made 21 Premier League starts, often filling in at both centre-back and left-back.

Porto views Kiwior as a strategic addition to their squad. His versatility and international experience make him a strong candidate for their defensive setup, especially ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Arsenal Reshapes Defensive Strategy

Arsenal’s pursuit of Hincapie reflects a shift in their defensive strategy. Manager Mikel Arteta wants a left-sided defender who excels in ball progression and aggressive duels. Hincapie fits that profile and could elevate Arsenal’s backline.

If Arsenal completes the Hincapie deal, Kiwior’s move to Porto will be finalized immediately. If not, Arsenal may need to explore alternative defensive options before the transfer window closes.

With the deadline approaching, Arsenal must act quickly. If they sign Hincapie, Porto will unveil Kiwior within hours. Otherwise, both clubs may need to revise their plans.
