Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his belief that Arsenal will once again be a formidable contender for the Premier League title in the upcoming season. This comes after Guardiola watched Arsenal deliver an impressive performance, thrashing Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 in a pre-season friendly.
Guardiola stated that Arsenal, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, has been consistently improving. Last season, Arsenal pushed Manchester City to the very end, with the title race being decided on the final day. The Gunners have since bolstered their squad with key signings, including Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori.
When asked about his thoughts on potential title rivals, Guardiola did not hide his concerns. “Of course, I have been concerned for many years with how good they are because every year they are getting better,” he said. “I see Arsenal playing at the same level as last season; I saw their game against Leverkusen. They are on fire. Every year it looks like they are more and more difficult”.
Guardiola emphasised the challenges that Manchester City would have in defending their title. “Everyone wants the crown we have had for four years, it’s simple as that. It’s how we defend it. We will see,” he remarked.
