Paul Scholes Tips Arsenal to “Canter” to Premier League Title Ahead of Man Utd Clash

Paul Scholes Arsenal title

As Arsenal prepares to face Manchester United, Paul Scholes makes a prediction about their Premier League title chances.

Paul Scholes has made a surprise prediction about the Premier League title race, predicting Arsenal will “canter” to victory as they prepare to host Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Despite Arsenal’s mixed record against fellow title contenders, the Manchester United legend believes Mikel Arteta’s side are now clear favourites, pointing to dropped points from both Liverpool and Manchester City as the decisive factor.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate with Sky Bet, Scholes admitted he had doubts earlier in the season about Arsenal’s ability to win the league without beating the so-called “big teams”.

Arsenal have faced Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa in five of their six fixtures against the current top four, winning just once. That record previously concerned Scholes.

However, the former United midfielder has now softened his stance.

“One thing Arsenal haven’t done is beat a Liverpool or a Man City,” Scholes said.
“But looking at how many points Liverpool and City are dropping, I don’t think they are going to have to. I think it could be a canter for them.”

Rivals’ Slips Hand Arsenal the Advantage

Arsenal started the season behind Liverpool and Manchester City in most title predictions, but consistency has pushed the Gunners into a commanding position. Arteta’s side currently hold a seven-point lead at the top of the table, with rivals failing to maintain pressure.

Scholes highlighted that in previous seasons, Arsenal’s failure to win big games would have proved costly. This campaign, however, the landscape looks different.

In other years, City or Liverpool would be closer. That’s when you have to win those games,” Scholes added.

With both challengers dropping points regularly, Arsenal have been able to build separation without dominating head-to-head clashes.

Scholes’ comments arrive ahead of a fascinating meeting with Manchester United, who travel to north London buoyed by a 2-0 derby win over Manchester City.

That victory marked Michael Carrick’s first match as interim head coach, and Scholes praised the former midfielder’s calm approach.

Michael Carrick didn’t do a lot unexpected,” Scholes said.
“Having players back from AFCON made a difference. Harry Maguire was good next to Lisandro Martínez.”

Scholes even suggested that a strong run could spark calls for Carrick to stay beyond the interim period.

What a Win Would Mean for Arsenal

Victory over United would allow Arsenal to stretch their lead to double digits, placing one hand firmly on the Premier League trophy and edging closer to ending their 22-year title drought.

While doubts remain about Arsenal’s record in high-profile fixtures, Scholes’ prediction underlines a growing belief across the football world: this season may finally be the one where consistency, rather than dominance in big games, decides the title.

Sunday’s clash now carries even greater significance — not just for rivalry bragging rights, but for the direction of the Premier League crown.
