Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has sparked debate by claiming that Man Utd might have a better season than Arsenal, despite their Premier League struggles. His argument is based on European competition success, particularly the Europa League.

Parker told Metro that if Manchester United wins the Europa League, their season could be considered more successful than Arsenal’s, especially if the Gunners fail to secure the Champions League title. While the Champions League holds more prestige, Arsenal faces a tough challenge after losing 1-0 to PSG in their semi-final first leg. They now need to win in Paris to secure a spot in the final.

On the other hand, Manchester United remains in Europa League contention, facing a crucial semi-final match against Athletic Bilbao. If they lift the trophy, Parker suggests their season would surpass Arsenal’s, as United would secure silverware while Arsenal might end trophyless.

Despite Parker’s optimism, Manchester United has endured a disappointing domestic campaign. They currently sit 14th in the Premier League, far behind second-placed Arsenal, who have been competing with Liverpool for the title. United also exited the FA Cup in the fifth round, losing to Fulham, though they did defeat Arsenal earlier in the competition. Their Carabao Cup run also ended in the quarter-finals, while Arsenal progressed further.

Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, has made a strong Premier League title push, but ultimately fell short as Liverpool secured the championship. The Gunners finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2024, extending their wait for a league title since 2004. Their last major trophy was the FA Cup in 2020, while Manchester United has won the FA Cup in 2024 and the Carabao Cup in 2023.

While Parker’s claim is compelling, it depends on how both teams finish the season. If Manchester United wins the Europa League and Arsenal remains trophyless, his argument might hold weight. However, given Arsenal’s strong league performance, many would argue they have had a better season overall.
