Arsenal have officially confirmed that Edu Gaspar has resigned from his position as sporting director. Edu, who joined the club in 2019 as technical director before being promoted to sporting director in 2022, has decided to pursue a new challenge.
In a statement released by the club, Edu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and be a part of Arsenal’s history. “This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” Edu said. “Arsenal will always remain in my heart, and I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best.”
Arsenal co-owner Josh Kroenke also paid tribute to Edu, acknowledging his immense contribution and dedication to driving the club forward. “Everyone at the club wishes him well,” Kroenke added. “We remain focused on our strategy and winning major trophies.”
Edu’s departure comes as a surprise to many, but it is understood to be entirely his decision. He has agreed in principle to join Nottingham Forest, where he will work with owner Evangelos Marinakis. Edu’s new role will involve overseeing recruitment and player development for Marinakis’ network of clubs, which includes Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
Arsenal will now begin the search for a new sporting director to continue their strategy and ambitions. The club remains focused on their goals and is confident in their succession plan.
