Noni Madueke medical today as Chelsea winger edges closer to £52m Arsenal switch in major Premier League move.
Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, with the 23-year-old set to undergo a medical today ahead of a reported £52 million move to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have reached full agreement with Chelsea for the England international, who is expected to sign a five-year deal. Personal terms have already been agreed, making this a straightforward process pending the medical.
Madueke, who joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023, showed flashes of brilliance but struggled for consistent game time amid Chelsea’s heavy squad rotation. Despite this, he managed 11 goals and 5 assists across all competitions last season.
Mikel Arteta sees Madueke as a valuable addition to strengthen Arsenal’s attacking options, especially on the wings. With Bukayo Saka needing quality backup and Martinelli’s fitness concerns, Madueke’s pace, dribbling, and versatility make him a strong fit. The move also aligns with Arsenal’s busy transfer window, having already brought in the likes of Kepa, Norgaard, and Zubimendi.
Chelsea are open to the sale, using it as an opportunity to balance the books and ease Financial Fair Play pressures. Madueke’s departure also clears space for their new signings in wide areas.
The transfer, however, has sparked debate among Arsenal fans. A section of supporters have criticized the £52m fee, and a petition against the move has reportedly gained traction. Football pundit Rio Ferdinand publicly defended Madueke, calling the criticism “vulgar” and urging fans to back the young talent.
If the medical goes as expected, Madueke will be unveiled as an Arsenal player this week and could feature in the Gunners’ pre-season tour starting later this month.
