Noni Madueke joins Arsenal in a high-profile summer transfer that redefines Arteta’s attacking options.
Arsenal have officially announced the signing of England international Noni Madueke from Chelsea, marking their fourth major acquisition of the summer transfer window. Madueke, 23, joins Arsenal on a five-year contract worth an estimated £52 million, including add-ons.
Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £29 million. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 92 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists. Arsenal will pay an initial £48.5 million, with £3.5 million in performance-related bonuses. He will wear the number 20 shirt at the Emirates Stadium.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement over the signing:
“Noni is an exciting and powerful young player… He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League. At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well”.
In agreement, Sporting Director Andrea Berta described Madueke as a “dynamic, versatile wide forward” whose technical prowess will “significantly strengthen” the team.
Born in North London, Madueke began his youth career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham before moving to PSV Eindhoven. His return to the capital is a personal milestone:
“It’s great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad… I can’t wait to bring my style to the team and help the boys take that next step”.
Madueke is expected to provide depth and competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings. His versatility allows him to operate on both flanks, a trait Arsenal value highly.

Despite the club’s enthusiasm, the move has sparked mixed reactions. A petition opposing the transfer has gained traction among fans. Critics question the hefty price tag and his consistency, with pundit Paul Merson suggesting the signing might hint at future changes involving Saka.
Madueke will join Arsenal’s squad after their Asia pre-season tour, which includes matches against AC Milan, Newcastle, and Tottenham. With Arsenal also pursuing deals for Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres, the club’s summer spending could exceed £120 million.
