New York City FC head coach Nick Cushing has officially ruled himself out of the running for the vacant Head Coach position at Arsenal Women. Despite being Arsenal’s primary target to replace Jonas Eidevall, Cushing has confirmed that he will remain with New York City FC.
Cushing, who has been with New York City FC since 2020, first as an assistant coach and later as head coach, has expressed his commitment to the club. He stated, “I can confirm that I will be back here next year,” during a press conference ahead of New York City’s crucial playoff tie against Cincinnati.
The 39-year-old manager, whose family resides in the United States, is under contract with New York City FC until the end of the 2025 season. He has been instrumental in the club’s success, leading them to the MLS Cup Playoffs and a Campeones Cup victory.
Cushing’s decision comes as a surprise to many, given his impressive track record with Manchester City Women, where he won four trophies, including the FA Women’s League Cup and the WSL title. His coaching philosophy, influenced by his time with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, has been praised for its focus on possession and attacking football.
Arsenal Women are now in the process of finding a new manager, with interim head coach Renee Slegers currently leading the team. The club is considering various candidates, but it seems Cushing’s name will not be among them.
