Gary Neville hails Man City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma as an “animal,” ranking him above Arsenal’s David Raya in the Premier League battle.

Football pundit Gary Neville has praised Manchester City’s new goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, calling him an “absolute animal” and ranking him above Arsenal’s David Raya in the Premier League goalkeeper debate.

Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal, Neville highlighted Donnarumma’s commanding presence since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in a £26 million summer move. Despite competition from fellow signing James Trafford, the Italian has already secured his place as City’s No. 1.

“You look at Donnarumma, he’s an absolute animal,” Neville said. “He’s just big. When he comes for it, attackers hesitate because they know they’re going to get smashed if he collides with them.”

Neville compared Donnarumma’s imposing style to legendary goalkeepers Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, insisting he prefers goalkeepers with a dominant physical edge.

Raya Praised but Ranked Below

While Neville acknowledged Raya’s talent and praised Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, he made it clear that Donnarumma ranks higher in his preference.

“I like Alisson at Liverpool. I like Raya. But I wouldn’t pick Raya over Donnarumma or Alisson, because I love a massive goalkeeper,” Neville added.
