Riccardo Calafiori revealed that Myles Lewis-Skelly felt ‘disappointed for the team’ following his controversial red card in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s side found themselves down to 10 men in the first half after Myles Lewis-Skelly received a straight red card from referee Michael Oliver for a trip on Matt Doherty.
Initially, Lewis-Skelly’s foul appeared to be a cynical trip that merited a yellow card. However, Oliver judged the challenge as ‘serious foul play,’ leading to the red card.
In an interview with Optus Sport, Riccardo Calafiori revealed that Myles Lewis-Skelly was deeply disappointed with his controversial red card. The 18-year-old defender felt upset for the team’s sake.
Lewis-Skelly’s red card came in the 43rd minute, leaving Arsenal with ten men for the majority of the match. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Arsenal managed to secure the win thanks to Calafiori’s goal in the 74th minute.

Calafiori shared that he saw Lewis-Skelly at half-time, and the young defender was visibly upset about the decision. “He was really disappointed for the team,” Calafiori said. “He didn’t mean to cause any harm, and it was clear to everyone that it wasn’t a red card.”
The Arsenal squad showed great resilience and unity in the face of adversity, with Calafiori’s goal proving to be the decisive moment in the match. Despite the controversy, the team managed to secure a crucial victory, keeping them within six points of league leaders Liverpool.
Calafiori’s winning strike and the team’s overall performance have provided a positive outlook despite the challenges faced during the match.
