Mikel Merino was notably absent from Real Sociedad’s training session today. This absence has fueled speculation that his transfer to Arsenal is now just a matter of time. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the deal is progressing smoothly, with only minor details left to finalize.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Merino has been a major talking point this summer. The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder, who played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, has been on Arsenal’s radar for several months. His impressive performances, including a decisive goal against Germany in the quarter-finals, have made him a highly sought-after player.

Standing at 6ft 2ins, Merino is known for his aerial prowess and ability to break up play, making him an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup. His versatility allows him to operate both as a deep-lying playmaker and a more advanced midfielder, providing Arsenal with much-needed depth and options in the middle of the park.

Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, was recently spotted in London, reportedly to negotiate the final terms of Merino’s departure. Despite some last-minute demands from Real Sociedad, Romano insists that the transfer is on track and should be completed soon.
