Arsenal’s new signing, Mikel Merino, has suffered a significant setback, fracturing his shoulder during his very first training session with the club. The injury is expected to sideline the Spanish midfielder for close to two months, a blow to both the player and the team as they navigate the early stages of the season.
Merino, who joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad for a fee of $41.5 million, was eagerly anticipated to bolster the Gunners’ midfield. However, his debut will now be delayed due to this unfortunate injury. The incident occurred when Merino collided with teammate Gabriel Magalhaes during a training session, resulting in a painful fall that led to the fracture.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s very unfortunate. He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor, and Gabriel landed on top of him. It looks like he has a small fracture probably”.
According to the Daily Mail, there is optimism within the club that Merino could return to action after the October international break. This timeline would allow him to miss the least amount of crucial fixtures and potentially be back in time for some key matches later in the season.
