Newcastle United dealt a significant blow to Arsenal’s silverware aspirations this season, as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon spearheaded a 2-0 victory in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been warned that the performances of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus could potentially cost him his job. Following Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley criticized the duo for their lack of impact in the final third.
Burley pointed out that despite Arsenal’s dominance in possession and shots on goal, Havertz and Jesus failed to deliver when it mattered most. “In the final third, they are mediocre at best and there is a gaping hole,” Burley said. He added, “If they don’t address this issue, it could eventually cost Arteta his job.”
The defeat has intensified the scrutiny on Arteta’s tactics and his reliance on Havertz and Jesus to lead the attack. With Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes faltering, the pressure is mounting on the manager to find a solution to their goal-scoring woes.
Arteta himself admitted that his players need to improve their finishing, but Burley believes that unless significant changes are made, Arteta’s position could be at risk. “They need to be more clinical, and if they don’t, it could be the end of Arteta at Arsenal,” Burley concluded.
