Mikel Arteta Voices Concern Over Viktor Gyökeres Injury Ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League Clash

Viktor Gyökeres injury

Mikel Arteta voices worry over Viktor Gyökeres’ fitness as Arsenal face growing injury concern ahead of their Champions League test.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raised alarm over Viktor Gyökeres injury, casting doubt on the striker’s availability for upcoming fixtures, including the crucial Champions League tie against Slavia Prague. The setback threatens to derail Arsenal’s strong form in both domestic and European competitions.

The Swedish forward, who joined Arsenal from Sporting CP in the summer and has already netted six goals, was substituted at halftime during Arsenal’s 2–0 victory over Burnley. Although Gyökeres scored in that match, he showed visible discomfort and did not return for the second half — a precaution that now appears justified as fears grow over a muscular issue.

Speaking at his press conference in Prague, Arteta confirmed the striker’s absence:

He’s definitely not available. He hasn’t trained today,” Arteta said. “We need more tests and scans in the next few days to understand the extent of the injury.”

When asked if it could be serious, Arteta didn’t hide his concern:

I am worried because he hasn’t had many muscular issues, and he needed to come off feeling something. It’s never a good sign for an explosive player. We’re checking how bad it is.”

Arsenal Face Attacking Setback

Gyökeres injury is a major blow for Arsenal’s Champions League and Premier League campaigns. His powerful runs, sharp finishing, and chemistry with Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard have transformed Arsenal’s attacking play this season.

With the Swede sidelined, Mikel Merino and Leandro Trossard are expected to step up as Arsenal navigate a congested fixture list.

Arsenal’s medical team will conduct detailed scans this week to confirm the severity of the problem. While the club remains cautiously optimistic, the fear is that Gyökeres may miss several games.

As Arsenal push for glory on multiple fronts, fans hope the striker’s absence is brief — and that Viktor Gyökeres soon returns to lead the charge in Champions League and Premier League action.
