Arteta and Sterling had previously worked together at Manchester City when Arteta aided Pep Guardiola as an assistant coach. Reflecting on their time together, Arteta described his relationship with Sterling as “exceptional.” He praised Sterling’s abilities and the strong bond they developed, stating, “My time with Raheem was exceptional. We built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at that time. He taught me a lot as well, about individuals, how the players think, and how we support them. He is someone I have really strong feelings about”.
