Mikel Arteta reveals why Arsenal’s Premier League title bid failed

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offers a candid assessment of injuries, red card controversies, and tactical hiccups that hindered their Premier League bid.

Arsenal’s hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy this season have been dashed yet again, marking their third straight year of heartbreak. Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, recently opened up about what went wrong, and it’s clear this season has been a bit of a rollercoaster.

First off, injuries played a massive role. Losing key players like Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Kai Havertz at critical moments was a punch to the gut. You could almost hear the collective groan from fans every time the injury list grew. And then, to add salt to the wound, there were those frustrating refereeing decisions—like the controversial red cards handed to Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Although Lewis Skelly’s card was eventually overturned.

When asked if Arsenal could have done more to challenge Liverpool, Arteta replied, “Certainly, there are things we could have approached differently.”

He added, “Otherwise, you would win every game regardless of injuries, situations, red cards, or referee decisions. But that’s just how it is.”

Arteta concluded, “At the end of the season, we’ll evaluate what we did well and what we didn’t.”

Reflecting further, he said, “If you had asked me back in August, given everything that was going to happen to our team, where I would expect us to finish—second place would probably have been my answer.”

Despite the setbacks, Arteta appears determined to learn from this season’s mistakes and turn things around. Liverpool might be walking away with the trophy this time, but Arsenal isn’t giving up. Fans are already buzzing about what changes might be in store to finally get their team over the finish line next season.

So, while it’s another “almost” year for the Gunners, there’s still plenty to cheer about. Arsenal’s resilience shines through, and who knows? Next season might just be their time to take the crown. Fingers crossed, right?

While Arsenal’s title bid ended in disappointment, Arteta remains optimistic about the team’s progress. He praised the young squad’s efforts and resilience, noting that their achievements should not be overlooked. As the Gunners prepare for the next season, Arteta and his team will undoubtedly analyze their shortcomings and strive to overcome them in their pursuit of Premier League glory.
