Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta prioritizes the current season over discussions on new deals.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that he has no plans to begin contract talks with Thomas Partey and Jorginho, despite both players having less than six months remaining on their current deals. Arteta emphasized that the focus should be on the current season and the upcoming challenges, rather than engaging in contract negotiations at this stage.
Arteta stated, “What I can say is that it’s not about what I want, it’s about what those players have in their minds and their situations. I don’t want to start to have these conversations now, I want to have them much later because the focus now has to be on what we have to do in the season. They can understand the intentions, and then we will see what we can do.”
Thomas Partey has enjoyed a resurgence in form recently, being utilized in midfield and even at right-back due to injuries to Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu. His versatility and consistent performances have been crucial for Arsenal.
Jorginho, on the other hand, has been used more sparingly by Arteta but remains an important figure in the squad. He has worn the captain’s armband in recent matches, reflecting his leadership qualities.
Arteta expressed his happiness with both players and their contributions to the squad. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining the right mindset and focus as Arsenal navigates a busy period with competitions in multiple fronts. The club is also looking to its academy for potential solutions, with young talents like Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri stepping up.
While the future of Partey and Jorginho at Arsenal remains uncertain, Arteta’s decision to delay contract talks highlights the club’s commitment to focusing on the present and ensuring that the team remains competitive in all competitions. The coming months will be crucial in determining the direction of both players’ careers and Arsenal’s success on the pitch.
