Mikel Arteta Reveals Arsenal Stars Wanted to ‘Kick’ Max Dowman After Training Antics

Max Dowman Named in Arsenal Champions League Squad as Gabriel Jesus Misses Out

Mikel Arteta shares how Arsenal stars jokingly wanted to ‘kick’ teenage prodigy Max Dowman after his fearless skills embarrassed senior players in training.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shared a lighthearted story about teenage sensation Max Dowman, revealing that senior players jokingly wanted to “kick” him during training after being embarrassed by his incredible skills.

At just 15 years old, Max Dowman has already become one of the most talked-about talents at Arsenal. The Hale End graduate made his competitive debut in August during a 5–0 win over Leeds United and has since featured against top opposition, including Liverpool. He is also expected to play a part in the Carabao Cup clash with Port Vale.

Dowman’s fearless approach in training quickly caught the attention of his more experienced teammates. His bold skills and cheeky nutmegs reportedly left some senior stars red-faced.

Arteta Shares Senior Players’ Reaction

Speaking at a press conference, Arteta revealed the humorous reaction from the squad.

“At the beginning, they responded immediately—kick him!” Arteta joked. “Max, to be fair, was excellent. He stood up and got to the next one. You can really take it personally when someone who was 14 last year is doing certain things to players.”

The Arsenal boss explained that while the initial reaction was playful, Dowman has since earned the full respect of the dressing room.

Arsenal Taking Care With His Development

Arteta praised Dowman’s character, describing him as “such a nice boy” and stressing the importance of managing his development carefully.

“It brings responsibility to look after somebody with that talent and make sure we just do what we have to do to give him the best chance to exploit his talent,” he added.

Arsenal are carefully balancing the teenager’s exposure to first-team football with his education and physical growth, ensuring his rise is sustainable.

With injuries to key players like Noni Madueke, Arteta may turn to Dowman for more minutes in the coming weeks. Despite the growing spotlight, the 15-year-old remains grounded and well-liked by the squad.

Dowman has already left a lasting impression at Arsenal—both for his fearless football and for the playful “kicks” senior stars jokingly promised him after training ground antics.
