Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Myles Lewis-Skelly for receiving his first senior international call-up under England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his pride and satisfaction following the inclusion of Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad. The 18-year-old has been a standout performer for the Gunners this season, earning his place in the national team through a series of impressive displays.
Arteta, speaking ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League clash with Chelsea, was full of praise for the Hale End graduate. “Very proud. It’s a huge moment for him, getting the call from England. Very happy,” Arteta said. The Arsenal boss highlighted the significance of having an English core at the club, with players like Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka representing the club’s rich history and cultural identity.
Lewis-Skelly’s rapid rise to the senior squad has been nothing short of remarkable. Having made his senior debut for Arsenal in September, he has since become a key part of Arteta’s squad, racking up 25 appearances and scoring his first senior goal in February’s 5-1 win over Manchester City. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with Tuchel fast-tracking the young left-back into the England setup amid a shortage of options in that position.

Arteta also touched on the parental responsibility he feels towards young players like Lewis-Skelly, drawing parallels between his own family and the young talents under his guidance. “They are almost the age of my oldest son, so I can see a lot of similarities,” he said. “Both of them have great families. We have a big responsibility”.
Tuchel, who recently took over as England manager, has shown confidence in Lewis-Skelly’s abilities, praising the youngster’s potential and outlining plans to fast-track his experience at the international level. The inclusion of Lewis-Skelly in the squad is a testament to his hard work and dedication, as well as the support and development provided by Arteta and the Arsenal coaching staff.
