Mikel Arteta was visibly frustrated after West Ham thwarted his side’s chances, paving the way for Liverpool to potentially extend their advantage.

Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium, which was disappointing. The loss dealt a significant blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes, leaving them eight points behind leaders Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, expressed his frustration and disappointment in the post-match interview. He acknowledged that the team’s performance was not up to the mark and highlighted several key issues that contributed to the loss.

“We didn’t play at our level today. The performance was not good enough. We struggled to break through and lacked efficiency in the final third,” Arteta said. He pointed out that the team allowed West Ham to counter-attack too easily, especially in the second half.

The match saw Arsenal reduced to ten men after Myles Lewis-Skelly received a red card for a tackle on Mohammed Kudus. Arteta admitted that the red card made it even more challenging for the team to mount a comeback.

Despite the setback, Arteta remains focused on the future. “We have to keep going. There’s still a long way to go and many points to play for. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves and have to learn from this,” he stated.

The defeat was compounded by the absence of several key players due to injury, including Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Martinelli. Arteta emphasized the need to focus on the players available and make the most of the resources at hand.
