Arsenal’s hopes of reaching the Carabao Cup final are on shaky ground after a disastrous 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle in the semi-final first leg.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has responded to his team’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, acknowledging the disappointment but remaining optimistic about the second leg.
Arteta admitted that his side lacked a cutting edge, saying, “That was the biggest difference. In the game. In every other aspect, we were the better team. They scored two goals and credit to them as they managed to win the game like this. When we missed the chances and conceded the goal it is always tough, but the team reacted. He emphasized that despite the loss, he has full belief in his team’s ability to bounce back in the second leg.
The Arsenal manager also addressed the suggestion that his players might be struggling with fatigue due to the packed schedule, firmly shutting down the idea. “I don’t even want to talk about that. We have so many games coming up, big ones, and the team really wants it.” Arteta’s focus remains on the upcoming fixtures and ensuring his team is fully prepared.
Arteta acknowledged that both of Newcastle’s goals were preventable and that Arsenal could have done better defensively. “I believe we can go out there and do it. he said, highlighting his confidence in the team’s ability to turn things around.
