Mikel Arteta’s discusses potential transfer while the Gunners are in the United States for their preseason tour, which is notable considering the amount of attention Arsenal has been receiving lately regarding transfer.
It has been reported that Arsenal and Bologna are nearing completion on a transfer for Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori.
What comments has Mikel Arteta made regarding potential new signings?
When asked for updates on new signings during Arsenalβs preseason tour in California, head coach Mikel Arteta acknowledged that the team is aiming to strengthen specific areas.
βNo, unfortunately not, but we know there are certain positions that we want to improve and provide the squad with better resources, especially in terms of numbers where we are very short. We will try our best, but the main focus is to fall in love with the players we have and make them better,β Arteta stated.
He was then asked if he preferred to complete his transfer business early this summer: βYeah, from day one, Iβd have everyone. That would be my choice!β
Arteta was also questioned about the possibility of a new signing joining them in the USA during the preseason tour.
βI donβt know. Thereβs still a lot to go in the window. Edu, the board, and everyone at the club are working hard,β Arteta added.
In which areas should Arsenal improve?
A striker is obviously an area of focus. With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as the main options up front, there are concerns about Jesus’s injury history and whether Havertz, who performed well in a false nine role last season, is clinical enough.
Arsenal’s midfield and wide positions are well-covered, but adding another attacking option on the flank to occasionally rest Bukayo Saka could be beneficial. At this stage, Arsenal will only invest in players who make perfect sense for the squad and can significantly strengthen it. This is a great position to be in, especially with Jurrien Timber now fully fit, providing a versatile defensive and midfield option.
Most of the transfer news this summer will likely include players looking for regular playing time elsewhere, such as Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah, and Aaron Ramsdale. However, Arsenal has shown in recent years that they are willing to spend big when the right opportunity arises, giving fans hope that the search for a clinical finisher continues.
