Mikel Arteta Insists He is Delighted to See His Former Arsenal Teammate Alex Iwobi Finally Begin to Show His True Potential.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s head coach, has expressed his delight at seeing his former teammate Alex Iwobi finally begin to show his true potential. The Nigeria international, who made his breakthrough at Arsenal during Arteta’s last season as a player, has recently been in sensational form for Fulham.
Iwobi joined Arsenal’s academy and made his first-team debut in 2015. He played a key role in the team’s success during Arteta’s final season as a player, but was sold by Unai Emery in the summer of 2019. Since then, Iwobi has had stints at Everton and Fulham, where he has been reinvented by Marco Silva.
In recent months, Iwobi has been a standout performer for Fulham, scoring four goals in his last six appearances, including a brace in a 3-1 win over Brighton. His impressive performances have caught the attention of many, including his former coach Arteta.
Arteta spoke highly of Iwobi’s recent form, saying, “I always liked him a lot. I thought that he had a tremendous talent, a very special quality. He had the capacity to play in different spaces and different positions. I’m really happy to see him playing at that level.”
