Myles Lewis-Skelly’s growing seniority will be acknowledged next season with opportunities to excel in his preferred central midfield position.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed plans to change Myles Lewis-Skelly’s position next season, moving him from left-back to his natural central midfield role. This decision comes after Lewis-Skelly impressed in his temporary role at left-back due to injuries to key players such as Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney, and summer signing Riccardo Calafiori, leaving Arteta with a major headache at left-back.

Lewis-Skelly, a Hale End Academy graduate, has made a significant breakthrough in recent months, showcasing his versatility and talent. Despite being a midfielder by trade, he has adapted well to the demands of playing as a full-back. However, Arteta believes that moving him back to midfield will allow him to further develop and contribute to the team’s success according to MailSport.

The potential departure of Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the summer means that Arsenal’s midfield is set to undergo a transformation. Declan Rice and Mikel Merino are set to be joined by Martin Zubimendi with Arsenal understood to be close to agreeing a deal with Real Sociedad for the Spain international. This reshuffling will provide Lewis-Skelly with the opportunity to prove his worth in his preferred position.

Arteta’s decision to change Lewis-Skelly’s position highlights the manager’s confidence in the young player’s abilities and his commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.
