Arsenal’s injury woes have worsened after Kai Havertz was injured during their training camp in Dubai, joining Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli on the sidelines.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Riccardo Calafiori, is being considered as an option to play up front. This decision comes amidst a severe injury crisis that has left Arsenal short on attacking options.
The Gunners have been hit hard by injuries, with key forwards Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli all sidelined. With the team struggling to find suitable replacements, Arteta has turned to Calafiori, who has shown promise in his short Arsenal career.
Calafiori, known for his defensive prowess, has scored crucial goals in important matches, including a memorable strike against Manchester City and the winner against Wolves. His ability to find himself in goal-scoring positions and his physical presence make him a viable option as a makeshift striker.
Arteta explained, “It’s been done in the past. Defenders have this capacity because they become a threat especially in the context of the game when there is density in the box against a low block. It is an option that we have.”
While unconventional, this move highlights Arteta’s willingness to think creatively and adapt to the challenges faced by his team. Only time will tell if Calafiori can make the transition successfully and help Arsenal navigate through this difficult period.
