Arteta Admits Liverpool’s Squad Depth Gives Them an Edge in the Premier League Title Race.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has openly acknowledged that Liverpool’s squad depth is giving them a significant advantage in the Premier League title race. Following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, When asked how pivotal Liverpool’s win and Arsenal’s draw could be in the title race Arteta replied: ‘Yeah, there are moments, obviously, they managed to do that.
‘I mean, the subs made the impact and they [Liverpool] managed to change the game.
Arteta highlighted the impact of Liverpool’s strong bench, which played a crucial role in their recent win over Brentford.
Arteta admitted, “There are moments [in the title race], obviously. They managed to do that. They made the subs and the subs made the impact and managed to change the game.” He contrasted this with Arsenal’s situation, noting that injuries have left them short of options, especially in attack.
The Arsenal manager emphasized the physical toll on his team, saying, “After conceding the two goals very close to each other, the danger was because I knew how the team was, that we could go downhill because we were physically drained.” He added, “Suddenly the team found another gear to go again and put Aston Villa in their box and go and go again and trying to find the goal that we haven’t been able to score in the end.”
In light of his remarks, Arteta has called on the Arsenal board to address the issue of squad depth during the January transfer window. With Liverpool extending their lead to six points (with a game in hand), Arteta knows that bolstering his squad is crucial for Arsenal’s title aspirations.
