Mikel Arteta has indicated that Arsenal’s youngsters will receive an opportunity to impress amid the injury crisis in attack.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has recently hinted at opportunities for the club’s young talents to step up amid a significant injury crisis. With key players like Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Jesus sidelined, Arteta is considering giving the younger players a chance to shine.
Arteta emphasized the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. “We’ll explore every possible situation and make a decision from there,” he said, indicating that the club might even look at free agents to bolster their attacking options. However, the focus remains on the potential within the squad.
Among the young players who could see more game time are Charles Sagoe Jr, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, and Ismeal Kabia. Sagoe Jr, who was recalled from his loan spell at Shrewsbury Town, has been training with the first team and is expected to get a chance to impress. “He’s certainly training with us so any player now that is obviously in this position, the same with the others, they will have opportunities,” Arteta stated.
The Gunners’ injury woes have been a significant challenge this season, with multiple key players facing prolonged spells on the sidelines. Despite this, Arteta remains optimistic about his squad’s ability to overcome these obstacles. “A big pain in the tummy, that’s the first feeling,” he admitted, reflecting on the emotional toll of the injuries. However, he believes in the mental strength of his team to rise to the occasion.
Arteta also highlighted the need to be creative with the team’s tactics and formations to get the best out of the available players. “It is the behaviours and intentions of the team that matter, not just the formations,” he explained. This approach could see young players being given more responsibilities and opportunities to prove themselves.
