Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United has prompted calls for Mikel Arteta to find a replacement for Kai Havertz.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is under increasing pressure to replace striker Kai Havertz following the team’s disappointing exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United. The Gunners were knocked out on penalties after a dramatic match at the Emirates Stadium, with Havertz missing the decisive spot-kick.
Gabriel Magalhaes’ late equalizer for Arsenal came just two minutes after Diogo Dalot of Manchester United was sent off for a second yellow card. Despite dominating the game with an extra man, Arsenal failed to convert several chances and the match went to a penalty shootout. Havertz’s missed penalty ultimately cost Arsenal the match as United converted all five of their penalties.
Havertz has faced criticism for his lack of goals and consistency this season. Craig Burley, a former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder, commented that Arsenal will never win the title with Havertz leading the line. Burley emphasized the need for a more effective striker if Arsenal hopes to challenge for the Premier League title.
Arteta has defended Havertz, praising his work ethic and attitude, but the pressure is mounting for him to make a change. The recent injury to Gabriel Jesus, who was stretchered off with a knee injury during the match, has further complicated the situation. With Jesus likely to be out for a significant period, Arteta may have no choice but to seek reinforcements.
Arsenal has been linked with several strikers, including Alexander Isak from Newcastle United and Jonathan David from Lille. However, Arteta has previously shown reluctance to make major signings in the January transfer window. Whether he will change his stance remains to be seen.
