Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed why Ethan Nwaneri hasn’t started a Premier League match for the Gunners yet. The 17-year-old talent has made four appearances off the bench this season, impressing with his performances, but Arteta has opted for caution in his approach.
Arteta explained that the step up to regular first-team football is significant, and he wants to protect Nwaneri from the physical demands of the Premier League. “It is a huge jump and we need to understand where he is coming from,” Arteta said. “If he has had any issues in the last three to five years in his growth and development in the physical part, it’s really important to take care of because a lot goes through the roof straight away without you knowing.”
Despite the cautious approach, Arteta has fast-tracked Nwaneri into first-team training and has been impressed by his progress. The young midfielder has shown great skills and attitude, earning the trust of his teammates. “He’s a big talent, with the right attitude,” Arteta added. “We have some player there, I’m sure of that!”
Arteta believes that Nwaneri is edging closer to his first Premier League start, especially with the upcoming crucial fixtures. The manager is confident that the teenager will be a crucial part of his plans this season.
